Gwen is a Planner in Asakura Robinson’s Minneapolis office. She recently completed her Master of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Minnesota, and also holds a BA in Environmental Studies from Carleton College. In previous positions, Gwen has done research and work related to food and agriculture policy, community development, urban gardening, and local responses to the housing crisis. As a planner, she is particularly interested in finding ways to center community voices and knowledge in the urban development process and in fostering communities rooted in environmental justice, equity, and livability for all residents. Having previously interned at Asakura Robinson, Gwen has held support roles on a number of projects, including the Montrose Livable Centers Study in Houston and the Opus Placemaking and Urban Design Implementation Plan in Minnesota.
Gwen grew up in San Rafael, California and Portland, Oregon, and has spent the last 11 years in Minnesota. Outside of work you can find her gardening, cooking, and wandering around Minneapolis’s neighborhoods and natural areas on foot or bike
What’s your creative tool of choice?
I have my best creative ideas while going on long walks.
If you could work on a project anywhere in the world where would it be?
Right now I’m the most interested in working on projects in Minneapolis where I live.
If you had a superpower to make a bigger impact on communities/ cities/ or environments what superpower would you have?
The ability to communicate complex ideas quickly and effectively.
